I am Venga!

I can't believe it! My humans say that tomorrow makes 6 months that we've been living here in Costa Rica! That's a whole half a year!! I really miss all my human family and friends back in the States, but I have had fun making lots of new human friends here in Costa Rica!
Just a little doggie thought for the day:
When we first moved here I noticed something very strange. I already told you how there are dogs everywhere down here! (some have humans and some don't.....pobrecitos) But I discovered that every dog here has the same name! How strange is that?! Every time a human would call their dog, they said "Venga!" and the dog would come. It didn't matter if it was a boy dog or a girl dog. Now where I'm from in Tennessee, every dog has their own name, and boy dogs and girls dogs have very different names. So I found this very curious. Then one day while we were at a park, I realized that even some of the human niños answered to "Venga" too! I was so very confused!
But my humans (they are so very smart), they taught me that "venga" means "come" in Spanish! I was so relieved! This means those dogs and human niños each have their own special name. Whew!
But then I started to think about it, and I want to be known as the dog that comes when my humans call my name. I love my humans so much, they give me everything I need and more, and I want to do whatever they ask. When they call my name, when they say "Lucy come!" I come running!
I also love walking with my humans, right next to them, there is no safer place!
Wherever my humans go, I go too.....(except school of course, that's my siesta time!).
It's the same with God, I know He gives us everything we need and more. And by His side is the safest place in the whole world! He called my humans and said "venga". He told them to go to Honduras to rescue human niños and teach them about Him. So my humans came running to Him, because they love Him and He loves us, and said yes to His call.
Where He tells us to go and what He tells us to do, we do. Because when He calls, we come. All because of love. I want to be known as the little dog that comes to her humans because they love me and I love them. I want to be known as "Venga".
What about you?

What's a "Honduras"?

Shhhh! I'm pretending to be asleep so my humans don't know I'm on here! hehehe!
I bet you guys are wondering what happened to me when my humans left me and went to that place where the water chases you (my humans call it "the beach")! Last month, my humans packed up their suitcase, got in a car and left me! Can you believe that?! I am too much fun to get left! Anyway, a little while later two other humans came and took me to their house. I've been to their house before, they're friends of my humans. They're really nice. They played with me and took me for walks, it was great! And then, THEY packed up a suitcase too, took me back to my house and left me! I got left twice!! But since I was back at my house, I thought that meant my humans were coming back.
They didn't.
Instead, these other humans with puppy humans (they're called children or kids or ninos) came and got me! I LOVE kids! They are soooo much fun! They're just my size and the playing NEVER stops!
We had so much fun together playing fetch all day long! Just when I thought I was wearing them out, they would switch (there's two of them) and we'd play some more!
Sometimes we would take a break and read about Skippyjon Jones (it's a book about a cat) and I was very interested to see what would happen to this cat......because I like to chase them!
This human kid, he's a very good reader!
Sometimes he would read to me while I got to play with my toy, and that was fun too! (Especially if I was gettin some good scratchin!)
I had fun with my new human kid friends! I hope I get to go back and play with them some more!
I was so excited when my humans got home! But I was so tired from playing ALL week! I actually fell asleep with my head on the table!
Before my humans left and after they returned, I got to play with some of my favorite humans! (And nap with them too...)
I was sooooo excited! I hadn't seen them in FOREVER!! (my humans said it was only 4 months, whatever that means!)
They even helped us move into our new house! And we know just how exhausting moving is!!
I was sad to see them go.....my humans say I get to see them again when it gets cold outside.....(guys, I'm worried!! It never gets cold here!!)
But then the other day I heard them say that we're almost halfway done, and then they said that means halfway to Honduras.
Guys, what is a "Honduras"???
Whatever a "Honduras" is, as long as I'm with my humans, I know I'll be okay. Just like we know that if God is with us, then we'll be ok because He takes care of us!
oooo they're getting up to eat dinner, which means it's time for me to eat too! ttyl! love, Lucy

We Moved.....again!!

I haven't had access to a computer lately to let you in on the scoop! My humans sent me to live with some other humans for a little while so they could go to the beach! Can you believe that?! First they go on a walk without me and now they went to the beach! I like beaches....mostly. Although, the last time I went to the beach the water chased me! And there was no grass to pee in!! I felt like a cat in a litter box, and I am NOT a cat! But that's ok, I probably had more fun than my humans, because the humans they left me with had kids! .......but I will have to tell you about that later because.....we moved!
Not like moving countries, where everything smells, sounds, tastes and looks different, but we moved to a different house!
I had some helping packing and brought all my stuff to our new house! Like my tennis balls!! Those are very important!
That's when I discovered a problem! Hey guys, little help! My ball got stuck down there!! These couches are soooo comfy! But who knew they came apart? This could be a problem.....
I got settled into my new room right away.....even brought a few toys with me in case my humans were ready to play!

Another problem I discovered, was this place actually has a bath tub!! Which means I can't escape from bath time.....HELP!!
The couch is also a good place to sit and keep a watch on the front door.....
Welcome to my new yard! When my humans are home, they just leave the front door open and I can come and go as I please! I LOVE my yard!!
It even has a fence and gate just my size! It's perfect!! And sometimes my humans open the gate and throw the ball for me so I can run farther! It's not as big as my field back in the States, but it's definitely more room than my last yard!
I've got my humans, my tennis balls, my bed, my yard and now my food! Yup, I think that's everything I need!
Whew! Moving is exhausting! I think I need a nap......zzzzzzzzzzz...........

I Have Pets!!!

The thing I love most about our house in Costa Rica, is that I finally get to have a pet! I've never had pets before, so I am very excited about this! Here is a picture of my very first pet!

I named this big guy George! Unfortunately, I found out that my humans didn't like George very much, so he didn't last very long! Then there was George II.
But George II wanted to live in the garage. That was not a good idea! I don't get my pets from the garage anymore! Since those two, I have had many subsequent pet Georges and Georgianas, but they never seem to last very long. So I decided to go for a new pet! His name is Hermie!
My humans found Hermie in the shower one morning!
I tried to tell him that was not a good place to live! I think he's called an earwig (I don't know about you, but I sure don't want him anywhere near my ear!). Hermie is a very calm guy, and he's not too worried about trouble because he has those HUGE pincers! But even those pincers are no match for my humans! Apparently they didn't like Hermie either......or they just didn't want to share their shower with him.
I found Annie one evening, it was dark out and kind of cool, and she was lonely. I figured there was plenty of room for her here. She was kind of chilly, even with all that fuzz on her, and boy could she run fast with all those legs of hers! I'm glad I only have four legs! I think I would get my legs tangled up and fall if I tried to run with 8 legs!
I had another pet, who I named Mickey, but he hides sooo good and scurries so fast I never could get a pic of him! I think he's gone now anyway.....
Then I discovered that my humans had pets of their own!! They call them "ants" and they put treats for them on the bathroom counter (something called Terro), but when they put the treats away, they put them high up on a shelf where I can't reach it!
You'd think they'd share!!
I have since discovered that the best pets are the ones you can keep outside! Like these guys!
oooo.....I hear my humans coming back from their walk! Guess I better go! Can you believe they went on a walk without me?! I think I'm going to go look for another pet! ttyl! love, Lucy

A Day in the Life of Lucy

Hey guys it's me, Lucy! My humans think I'm napping....hehehe...
So I thought I'd let ya'll know, what exactly it is that a traveling terrier does all day!
My humans go to school Monday through Friday, so every morning we get up really early!
I go outside to potty, then straight back to bed! (I don't have to go to school, so I'm gonna get my naps in!)
When it's time for them to go, my humans tell me bye and leave for school. But when they come home I get so excited!! I rush out the door to greet them in the yard....
And then it's time for lunch! But they don't share their food with me....
Unless it's watermelon in a watermelon bowel! It's one of my favorites! It just melts into sweet water in my mouth! My humans told me that watermelon in Spanish is called "sandia", which is funny because it's nothing like sand!!
Then after lunch my humans usually take me for a walk, which is one of my favorite things! When we get home, it's time for my humans to study! I try to help them study as best as I can!
I'm a great study buddy!
Until someone mentions the word "bath" or "ball", then I'm outta there!!
I have a very important job to do here, which includes helping my humans relax! (I try my best to be a good role model for them!)
I can tell when they're getting tired or stressed, and need a good snuggle!
And sometimes I just need a nap (it's hard work- helping with homework, helping my humans relax, going for walks and chasing the ball!), and my humans are way more comfy to sleep on than the tile floors or the couch!
At the end of the day, the most important thing is that my humans know that I love and support them!
So what did you do today?
(P.S. if you want to know more about my humans, check out their blog! www.vanvactorfcm.blogspot.com)

Tengo Miedo!!

Sorry it's been a while since I let ya'll know what's been going on.....my humans gave me a bath (which I didn't want!) so I peed on their bed and got in trouble....
When we first got here I was sooooo scared!! There were all these new strange smells and sounds! And my humans left me in this strange house as soon as we got here! (They did come back after a while and brought me food and other stuff.)
I remember when we first got here I could not relax! Cars were always driving by the house and these things called "motorcycles", whatever they are, they are LOUD! My humans say they are missing something called a "muffler" and that's why they are so loud. I had never heard that sound before. Oh and the dreaded fireworks!
Apparently, they have fireworks here a lot and I can hear them at my new house. I heard my humans talking about them and they said the fireworks are to celebrate each and every saint on their individual day, there must be a bunch!
Our gate that leads to the outside world is right by the street and strangers pass by it all the time....at first, I thought they were coming to pet me....but they don't, so now I just bark at them all!
The nice thing I like about our new country (my humans say it's called Costa Rica) is it's a dog paradise! I love going for walks, you can pee and poop anywhere and no one cares! (except my humans, they still want me to use the grass). Some times people walk their dogs on leashes, but other times they don't, or dogs just wander around. But I can't understand what they're barking about (and they bark a lot!), I guess they bark in Spanish.....maybe I need to go to school too. Oh, and you always have to watch your step here...not just because of the dogs. They have these things here called "gringo traps" (a gringo is what they call someone who lives in the U.S.) and they can be pretty dangerous!
I'm glad I'm a good jumper! I don't have to worry about no gringo trap! I just hope my humans keep watching where they're going....I don't think I could pull them out.
At least it's safe inside here.
I remember one day we went for a walk and when we came around the corner there was a man laying on the ground next to the wall. He smelled sad and like something else I had never smelled before...I think it was hopelessness....yeah, he smelled like hopelessness (and a turkey sandwich, because he had one). If he hadn't been sleeping I might've tried to cheer him up by licking his face! A good face licking always cheers people up!
My humans say they are here to learn Spanish so they can help people like him. Help people who smell like hopelessness to know about Jesus, because He gives us hope. If my humans can be brave enough to do this, then so can I! After all, Jesus says, "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." (even in Costa Rica!)
This is me, being brave! I'll talk to you later! love, Lucy
